On the spiritual journey we know not where we go, or how we’ll get there. But we can trust that God is in the details.
We’ve all heard the old saying “the devil is in the details,” which implies our best laid plans will be undermined by the unforeseen. When we try to plan each step of the way with exactitude we inevitably find this is the case. Because our limited intelligence can’t possibly foresee all the variables.
Instead, I say God is in the details. The details are not mine to work out. My job is to put one foot in front of the other and follow where spirit leads me. My job is to do God’s will in the present moment and strive to be love in action. I leave mid and long term planning to god.
The analytical mind is a useful tool for accomplishing short term goals. But beyond that we must leave room for spirit. Instead of planning every step of the journey, we should listen to what is being called for in the present moment. When we get clarity on that our job is to put one foot in front of the other, and be willing to change course as directed.
